Flood Resilient Accommodation EOI

Ritchie Villages owns and operates two caravan parks in Dunbogan on the Mid North Coast. The floods in March 2021 were devastating for the community, with many moveable homes in the LGA severely damaged. The impact of flooding is deep and the recovery slow.

Ritchie Villages has been working with leading flood architects JDA and globally renowned engineers Arup to design a moveable home capable of floating in response to flood waters, allowing the home to evade flood waters in the first place. This reduces recovery from months or years down to days. These homes are not just resilient to flooding. Installed at ground level and reducing the need for multiple stairs, our residents can live in these homes for longer without fear of “out growing” their home as they age. This design enables a more deeply connected and inclusive community.

Our buoyant homes will provide Australians with access to an adaptable, scaleable home that is resilient and sustainable. Ritchie Villages has multiple sites ready to receive these homes and is seeking a supplier to build them. PrefabAUS, as the peak industry body for offsite construction in Australia, is excited to be collaborating with Ritchie Villages on this important and novel project. With the events of the last few weeks in South East Queensland and New South Wales, this project is now more relevant than ever to address the changing nature of our climate and environment.
