On Wednesday, 28 August, the inaugural Smart Building Industry Awards were held at the Novotel, Sydney Olympic Park.
Marking a significant milestone in the prefabricated building industry, this prestigious event brought together a diverse and dynamic group of attendees, including Offsite 2024 attendees, award nominees, industry leaders, and supporters to celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements and excellence within the smart building sector.
The event served as a platform to highlight the innovative contributions and cutting-edge advancements that are shaping the future of prefabricated construction, fostering a spirit of collaboration and inspiration among all who attended.
Smart Building Industry Award Winners - 2024
Excellence in prefabricated building – Education
This category includes but is not limited to: Childcare facilities, kindergartens, schools, tertiary institutions.
Winner: Geelong Lutheran College, Armstrong Creek - 'Ngarrwa' Two-Storey Year 11/12 Hub. MODULAR BY SHAPE
Method: 95% Volumetric Modular. 70 prefabricated modules.
Named ‘Ngarrwa’ — the Wadawurrung word for ‘knowledge,’ the two-storey educational facility at Geelong Lutheran College, Armstrong Creek is home to senior students. The building features classrooms, breakout zones, Year 12 communal area with Genius Bar, tiered amphitheatre presentation space known as ‘The Cove’, and outdoor learning and recreational areas.
Excellence in prefabricated building - Healthcare
This category includes but is not limited to: Clinics, hospitals, laboratories, nursing homes, allied health facilities.
Winner: Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities. MODSCAPE
In collaboration with the Victorian Health Building Authority, Sensum and Vincent Chrisp Architects, Modscape delivered three alcohol and drug residential rehabilitation facilities across regional Victoria. As part of a $52.1 million investment, this 37-module rollout project provides much needed rehabilitation services to an additional 900 Victorians every year.
Excellence in prefabricated building - Infrastructure

Excellence in residential prefabricated building (social/affordable and resilient/emergency housing*)
This category includes any accommodation built to specification for a client providing social, affordable, resilient, or emergency housing.
Winner: Emergency Pods - Flood Relief by Wild Modular
Excellence in residential prefabricated building over $750K
This category is for a single residential home that is at least 90% prefabricated with a purchase price of $1 million or over for the building only (price does not include land, transport or permit costs). The home may be an example of a volume residential product range.
Winner: Bronte Beach by Modscape
Excellence in residential prefabricated building under $750K
This category is for a single residential home that is at least 90% prefabricated with a purchase price of under $1 million for the building only (price does not include land, transport or permit costs). The home may be an example of a volume residential product range.

Best use of materials in prefabricated building (timber, concrete, steel)
This category demonstrates the innovative use of a particular material or materials in the context of prefabrication.

This category demonstrates the best adoption of a prefabricated technique/method used in a construction project.
