prefabAUS is pleased to announce its North America Study Tour for June 2018. This follows our highly successful first Study Tour in 2017 when 26 prefabAUS members made the trip to Sweden.
Overview
Drawing on industry experts and a selection of factory and project visits, this Study Tour visits San Francisco and Tennessee in the USA and Toronto, Canada.
Indicative cost is AU$7,500 for the ground component and Qantas economy airfares.
This Study Tour is open to current prefabAUS/PrefabNZ members. Registrations are now open. Full payment of the ground component will be required at the time of registering online. AU$5,950 will be charged at the time of registering however, since the hold date for this price has now lapsed, the price is subject to increase and any increase in the price will be on-charged to the registrant accordingly for immediate prepayment prior to any travel arrangements being made.
What’s Included
- 6 nights’ accommodation, single occupancy room, 3-star or 4-star hotels, inclusive of breakfast (nights of Saturday 9 June to Thursday 14 June inclusive)
- Introductory presentations, factory and project visits (including group coach as required)
- Economy flights from San Francisco to Knoxville to Toronto
- Airport transfers and porterage & tipping for the transfers on the included flights
- 4 group dinners
CANCELLATION POLICY
There is a strict no refund policy. However, on or before 1 June 2018 you may nominate someone to replace you. Please note, additional fees will be applicable. All changes/cancellations must be received in writing, please email brooke.adams@prefabaus.org.au
In the event the Study Tour does not proceed, ground component payments will be refunded.
Study Tour Highlights
Program commences on the morning of Sunday 10 June in San Francisco and concludes on the afternoon of Friday 15 June in Toronto. This Study Tour includes expert presentations, project/factory visits and featured companies below. In the event that a visit or presentation is not able to proceed, prefabAUS will seek to arrange a suitable alternative.
Modular building start-up headed by a highly credentialed developer who has completed projects with modular elements and has now converted to become a manufacturer of volumetric housing modules. Factory OS has an order from Google for 300 apartment units.
The Terner Center for Housing Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley
The Terner Center develops strategies addressing current issues affecting housing and communities, including developing strategies that can bend the cost curve and make homes and communities more affordable through innovative design and construction techniques.
Acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2003 for US$1.7b, Clayton Homes is the largest builder in the United States of manufactured homes and modular housing, producing over 40,000 homes per year across its 40 factories. Clayton is a LEED Certified manufacturer since 2009.
This is the urban innovation organisation in the Alphabet (Google) family. Sidewalk Toronto is the flagship project – designing a digital-enabled district on the Toronto waterfront to tackle the challenges of urban growth. This vision includes new construction technologies.
Technology-based design and panel manufacturing operation refined over almost 10 years. Panelised homes are produced for customers including group company Great Gulf which has built over 50,000 homes in the US.
Travel Arrangements
Participants are to arrange their own travel insurance, ESTA Visa Waiver, eTA Visa Waiver, and flights to San Francisco and return from Toronto. This allows flexibility to incorporate ticketing for any pre or post-tour travel as well as accommodating individual corporate travel policy and programs.
