As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of painted and coated steel products, BlueScope will be partnering with the peak body for Australia’s off-site construction industry, prefabAUS, to further enhance our strong expertise in steel which provide vital components for houses, buildings, structures and more.

Chairman of prefabAUS, Damien Crough, said “Bluescope coming onboard as a foundation partner highlights their commitment to the prefabrication movement. Their participation will enable prefabAUS to create an outstanding member offering that will add further value to Bluescope's business while providing core support necessary to operate the Association.”

Our Purpose speaks to who we are and what we value as a global team, ‘creating strength’ with confidence, optimism and working together; transforming BlueScope for the realities of a competitive and fast-changing economy, inspiring our customers with sustainable choices and supporting the global shift to a low carbon economy.

Our strong partnerships and networks are built on BlueScope's most loved and recognised product brands, such as COLORBOND®, TRUECORE®, ZINCALUME®, REDCOR®, XLERPLATE®, and TRU-SPEC steels.

BlueScope recognises the opportunity for more efficient offsite manufacturing of building components. An example of this can be seen in partnering to deliver a COVID-19 Surge Centre. Construction of the ACT’s temporary Surge Centre was completed on Garran Oval on 15th May 2020, just five weeks from the project’s start date.

The facility was built, working closely with Austruss, using prefabricated wall frames and roof trusses made from TRUECORE® steel, that were manufactured off-site. No other materials for the framing were considered, said Rod Mitton, Project Director, Manteena Commercial. “We didn’t have any time to explore other options and quite frankly we just knew that the product was right for this project and that’s proven to be the case.”

Another project demonstrating the speed and efficiently of the prefabrication process can be seen in the accelerated construction of rooftop chalets required for a new apartment building in Mt Buller, Vic. Top level wall frames and trusses made from TRUECORE® steel were detailed, engineered and fabricated in-house at SBS Group to withstand heavy snow and delivered in time before the winter season set in.

When discussing the project, Angus Kay, Project Manager, One Construction Group, said this about the SBS Framing System made from TRUECORE® steel. “The frames were prefabricated which halved our erection process when compared to ‘stick building’. We saved at least half the time by prefabricating and erecting onsite – approximately four to six weeks were saved.”

BlueScope appreciates the prefabrication of building structures is a growing market segment and we would like to support prefabAUS members in driving new opportunities for steel within this.
