Offsite 2024: prefabAUS Roadmap to 2033 took place 28 - 29 August 2024 in Sydney.
Following the Australian government’s announcement of their target to build 1.2 million new homes by 2029 and the release of prefabAUS' Prefabrication Industry Roadmap to 2033 at the end of 2023, there has never been more momentum to move toward greater use of offsite construction, or modern methods of construction (MMC).
The four most critical recommendations from the Roadmap (as voted by prefabAUS members) drove the agenda of Offsite 2024. These are;
Position Smart Building within the National Housing Accord and other major projects
Embed Design for Manufacture and Assembly in major projects
Apply strategic public procurement to build scale
Create consistent nationwide standards and regulations
Over 200 delegates representing more than 130 companies and organisations from every Australian state (plus the ACT) attended the two-day event.

Autodesk Challenge Cup
The Autodesk Challenge Cup is a team challenge designed to discover the next generation of young built environment design professionals that will help to propel the industry into an innovative future.
This year’s Challenge Cup competition will explore how “smart” building practices can be used to create an architectural in tervention that supports real intergenerational connections in built environment programmes; beyond mere colocation strategies
The finalist team captain’s are invited to join us at Offsite 2024 to present their ideas before the Cup is awarded to the winning team.
We look forward to seeing what the teams will present this year!
Challenge Cup Submissions
SMART BUILDING; CONNECTED COMMUNITIES
How can “Smart” building connect communities, deliver social capital and foster positive health and well-being outcomes?
The 2024 Challenge Cup explored how “smart” building practices can be used to create an architectural intervention that supports real intergenerational connections in built environment programmes; beyond mere colocation strategies.
The challenge is to create social architecture, where the built form becomes the positive armature upon which community can be built.
The benefits of intergenerational community connection on the human condition, physical and mental health and wellbeing are well understood and supported. Evidenced not only through decades of research and well documented studies, but through lived examples in cultures around the globe.
The benefits of this intergenerational connection run in both directions, amplifying its positive contribution to the growth in social capital. How can we develop built environment programmes in the real world that remove the barriers to this growth in social capital? And how can we do this effectively and efficiently leveraging “smart” building?
